Course structure and working method
The course consists of two course weeks and is suitable for PhD students and also for people who use the results of safety research and the new integrated concept of well-being at work - individuals working in authorities, consulting firms, or as safety experts in companies. Participants can choose to take part only in one of or both of the course weeks.
For those wanting to acquire credits/points for their work, the total work effort for the complete course is five weeks. In addition to the two course weeks, these participants will need to read a set of articles and write a study protocol for their own project during the time between the course weeks. They will then have an opportunity to present their protocols during the second week. There is an exam at the end of the second week covering both course weeks and the articles read between the weeks. NIVA will provide a certificate indicating the amount of work the course required. Participants can use the certificate as a part of their PhD studies if they so wish.
Venue and accommodation
The venue of the course, Hotel Gabija, is located in Palanga, Lithuania. Palanga is famous for its glorious sandy beaches and is a popular summer resort. Palanga airport is just 8 km north of the town. The airport serves flights from Riga, Copenhagen and Oslo, although there might be some changes and additional flights for the summer season. A good way to see the small town and to get around is to hire a bicycle for the course week.
Hotel Gabija (****) is situated on the edge of the Botanical Park and less than a five-minute walk from the sea. The hotel offers spacious, comfortable and elegant rooms, modern conference facilities and also a wellness centre.
NIVA has reserved accommodation for the participants at the hotel. The total price of a single room with full board is EUR 620€/person, starting Sunday with dinner and closing on Friday with lunch. The price includes accommodation, breakfast, conference coffees, lunch, dinner and the social program. The price and the program are subject to minor changes. As part of the social program, we are going to visit the curonian spit, which is a Unesco-protected slither of sand stretching from Kalingrad's Sambian Peninsula in the south all the way to, but not quite touching, Klaipèda (www.nerija.lt/en).
If you do not need accommodation in Palanga, you can also choose a day-package which includes the conference facilities, coffees and lunch. The price for all five days in total is EUR 130. Please note that this price does not include the social program.
