PLEASE NOTE! There are only ten vacant places for the course in a

Background
Seven international courses on occupational dermatoses have so far been arranged by NIVA, in 1982, 1986, 1991, 1994, 1997, 2001 and 2005. Each course was attended by approximately 60 participants. Occupational dermatoses cause a significant percentage of industrial disabilities and a great number of lost work days. It has proven difficult even for an experienced dermatologist to determinate the agents causing an occupational skin disease.

Occupational skin diseases continue to be an important group of work-related diseases. Chemistry of allergens is an important aspect of occupational allergic contact dermatitis. The course combines clinical and chemical know-how in a course setting, which provides the participants with in-depth and simultaneously practical knowledge. The course is a new compact concept based on two earlier courses, "Chemistry of contact allergy" and "Occupational dermatology".

Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the participants with detailed up-to-date knowledge of practical importance.

Main topics

  • Allergic contact dermatitis

  • Irritant contact dermatitis

  • Chemistry of contact allergy

  • Immunology of contact dermatitis

  • Epidemiology of occupational dermatoses

  • Contact urticaria

  • Immediate allergy skin testing
  • Patch testing problems

  • New allergens

Working methods
Each lecture is followed by in-depth-discussions. The teaching will take place in groups tutored daily by a faculty member. The groups will discuss problems brought in by the participants, and will review and solve questions that have come up during the lectures. Active participation by the participants is highly encouraged, and reports related to occupational dermatology can also be presented as posters.
