NAM-NIVA workshop on Occupational Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
(4810)

25 - 26 August 2008, Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica, Oslo, Norway

NAM-NIVA workshop programme

The NAM-NIVA workshop will be organised in connection with the Nordic Work Environment meeting (NAM). NAM is organised by the the National Institute of Occupational Health, Oslo, in cooperation with NIVA.
Please see Programme NAM pdf for the whole conference program. The plenary sessions and poster presentations will be open to all participants. Please note that registration to the workshop on COPD should be made to NIVA.

Main topics
The course will address the following topics: COPD and mechanisms, COPD and exposures for smoke-gas, inorganic and organic dust.

Background/Objectives
In occupational settings exposure to smoke and gas, inorganic and organic dust is common. Occupational inorganic dust exposure is widespread in several occupational settings and special consideration will be given to the aluminium industry and workers in tunnels.

As for organic dust, farmers are known to have such exposures - often in high levels. Recently, papers concerning other occupational groups exposed to organic dust have been published. The course will provide a thorough understanding of the health effects of such exposures.

The purpose of the workshop is to give the participants information that allows them to better understand mechanisms and susceptibility for COPD in general. In addition, emphasis will be made in understanding the epidemiology, diagnose and exposure assessment concerning COPD and work.

Target group
The primary target group of the course is occupational health and safety units of public and private work places. As COPD-patients are encountered by general physicians and chest physicians, these groups will be welcomed as well.
