Background
Professional cleaning is a basic service occupation that is carried out worldwide. Domination by women,
low appreciation, part-time employment as well as ageing, young, and multinational workforce are particular features of
cleaning work. The number of employees is increasing, and the demands of the work are growing. Professional cleaning is
labour-intensive work requiring the use of manual equipment. Therefore, every cleaning process should be designed to be as economic
and effective as possible, while also taking into account the workload, capacities, and needs of the cleaners. When promoting
health and safety in cleaning work, it is necessary to evaluate various cleaning methods, tools and equipment, work organisation,
co-operation, working hours, etiologic histories, medical findings, the quality of cleaning, and easy cleaning materials.
Much research is currently being carried out on the differenti aspects of cleaning. The results of recent research will be presented
and discussed in the course. Participative approach will be employed.
Objectives
The objectives of the course are to provide methods to evaluate the particular aspects of health and safety of cleaners,
and to provide and evaluate activities to promote their health and work ability as well as ergonomics. In addition, the changes
in cleaning work and production concepts will be discussed.
Course structure
The course will consist of lectures, demonstrations, and discussions in which international experts will participate.
The participants are encouraged to give presentations and to bring material from their own studies.

Location and accommodation
The course will take place at the Barclay Hotel in Tartu. Tartu is a university town about 200 km south-east of Tallinn,
and can easily be reached by bus from Tallinn (departures twice an hour). The journey takes about 2 hours. The hotel is situated
at the heart of Tartu close to the Tartu University and the Town Hall. The full board price comprising accommodation, breakfast,
lunch, dinner, and conference coffees will amount to EUR 150,- per day. A so called day meeting with conference lunch and conference coffees
totals EUR 25,-. The price of an additional night is EUR 80,-. Also the social programme is included in the fullboard price.
Minor changes in the prices might be possible. More detailed information about the practical arrangements will be sent to the
